Coll Pottery Craft Centre

Ceramics, Kiln-Formed Glass, Jewellery

Artist Statement

For many years Coll Pottery was a major business on Lewis, at its height, employing twenty-two people and exporting worldwide. The old pottery building is now the workshop, studio and showroom of Alan and Stella, ceramic, and glass artists, respectively. With a combined experience of over 64 years, making, and selling to the public, the journey began in 1991 on South Uist, moving to Lewis in 2018 after purchasing the pottery.
Alan uses hand building, slab building, slip casting, and throwing techniques to produce a wide range of items such as bowls, platters, sculpture, and wall panels. Stella uses kiln forming techniques to work in recycled glass as well as specialist fusing glass. She also makes jewellery featuring her own glass work, as well as silver, and other gemstones. Since 2018, there has also been a variety of classes on offer, in both ceramic and kiln-formed glass. From beginner to advanced, from two-hour tasters to regular weekly sessions.
