Artist Statement
I am an exciting and prolific artist from Wolverhampton, who moved to the the Isle of Lewis to set up an art career, after a B.Ed degree to teach Primary School Children art and other subjects. I kept up a little, but lacking in inspiration. Then, I went backpacking round Isle of Skye and a holiday of a lifetime. I was so overwhelmed and inspired by the landscape with the sea, skies, wildflowers, birds and animals, I had the urge and need to draw and paint it. So my journey began. Our house came up at 8 Balallan, Isle of Lewis, so I jumped at it, my partner and I sold our last house, I handed my notice in and we moved here in 2003.
After 2005 to 2007, we chose to travel in a motor-home round Skye, Scotland and the Uists to explore and experience a frugal lifestyle living down to earth and painting every day. Till I came out with 180 paintings and the last painting was shortlisted for an International Competition, called "Pebble Beach." Then, again for "A Smile in the Snow" and "Ring Plover on Snail Shells." We came back and re-launched the Gallery and Coffee Shop and so my career took off, painting and making crafts with serving teas, coffee, light snacks and home-baking. By 2011, we opened the back of the gallery and extended into the house with an open studio, to paint and work in with more selling points.
