Olann fibrecraft

Heritage Crafts, Textiles

Artist Statement

In 1991 I qualified with a BA Hons degree in Graphic Design, and later in 1996, an MA in Performance Sportswear Design. In 2008,I decided to give up my career in commercial design. After moving to Lewis in 2010, I started to focus on textile art using local wool sources and the wool by-product from the Harris Tweed industry. I mainly work with felting, knit and crochet techniques.

Located on Great Bernera, I now have a flock of Hebridean sheep and run a small wool fibre business called Olann Fibre Craft. We make and sell art, crafts and a small range of wool craft supplies, and continue to follow the ethos of using recycled fibres and our own wool where possible. I also offer wool fibre craft workshops and am happy to do commissioned pieces.

My artistic inspiration comes from the natural landscapes, wildlife, colours and spiritually of the Western Isles.
