Otrisia - sustainable tweed crafts

Artist Statement

I make good use of fuidheagan (foo-ya-kin), also known as weavers' waste using mostly needle felting techniques to create various deceptively simple shapes. Hebridean hearts, haggis eggs, orbs, ciùbs, olags & bolags, foo ya cats and foo ya creatures gradually appear from colourful wollen balls of fuidheagan which my customers enjoy squeezing for de-stress, Christmas decorations, cat toys, objets d'art and unique souvenirs from the Outer Hebrides. It's my mission to ensure that the embedded labour from all the processes involved in generating this wonderful secondary material is no longer wasted or considered a nuisance and fuidheagan is translated from the Gaelic to something more useful, rather than a nuisance or waste. I love making them and letting new shapes evolve. I hope you love them too.
